To view a VRML 1.0 representation of each atom, click on the element name. You can download a VRML add-on or plug-in viewer for Microsoft Explorer or Netscape Navigator from their sites. To view a VRML 2.0 representation click on the 2.0 element name. You can download a VRML 2.0 viewer from cosmo player for either IE or Netscape at Cosmo site 2 He

The VRML 1.0 representations of the atoms are pictural aids only. They are a slight modification of the Bohr model which shows the solar system view of the atom. This is helpful to understand the bonding capabilities of each atom, but in no way is actually how the atom appears. The electron's position (depicted as red sphere) and momentum (depicted as an orbital path) cannot be known at the same time. The path should be understood as a probability of all of its possible positions, but is simplified for viewing as an orbit around nucleus (depicted as a blue sphere (protons) and green sphere (neutrons)). See Heisenburg uncertainty principle. 5 B
